Class Saint
Our Class Saint this year is St Mary – Mother of Jesus
We will be learning all about St Mary throughout the year and we will be celebrating her Feast Day on the 14th of January 2026.
RE
This half term we will be learning about two very special units within our R.E.
Creation – The children will be introduced children to God as Creator of all that they see around them and the idea of giving thanks.
Special celebrations – This unit will raise the children’s awareness of occasions for celebration, particularly marriage. That celebrations are happy occasions which may include prayers.
Literacy
We will explore many texts throughout this half term, some our focus texts will include:
The Colour Monster, Brown bear, Brown bear, Peace at last, colour books, emotion books
Writing focus:
Exploring with mark making tools and beginning to make marks and talk about them.
Reading Expectations
Library books – Class library books will be changes weekly, on a Wednesday. Please put your library book in your book bag on a Wednesday to be changed.
Reading books – When the nursery children have a reading book, this will be a picture book. Once this transition happens, please try to take the time to read their schoolbook 3x a week. This will help to prepare them for a reading routine throughout their time at St Marys and further!
We also encourage reading of children’s favourite books, traditional tales and all other books they love!
PE
Dough Disco – Squiggle while you wiggle
Jumping and Balancing – using one leg
Fine motor opportunities – threading, play-doh, using tweezers and scissors
Gross motor opportunities – building, moving big resources, working together, riding trikes and scooters, accessing large outdoor equipment.
Self-care – beginning to use the toilet, feeding myself with knife and fork, putting on and taking off coat/shoes/wellies.
P.E – Children will be focusing on the different ways we can travel – jump, walk, run and focusing on balancing.
Please ensure P.E kits are in school every day.
