School Nurse

 

The School Nursing team at Smallthorne health centre support all pulls that attend (school name). The named nurse for (school name) is Claire Bradley, however any of the school health team can be contacted all year round on the details at the bottom of this page.

Health

The School Nurse is able to advice and proivde support with a wide variety of health issues that

include emotional health, smoking, drug and alcohol misuse, sexual health, growth and development concerns and chronic illness. There are also links below to appropriate health websites that parents and pupils may find helpful.

Immunisations

Currently pupils in Year 8 and 9 receive immunisations in school for the following diseases;

Year 8: HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) Girls only

Year 9: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio Booster Meningitis C booster

 

During these sessions we also offer catch up MMR (Measles, mumps and rubella) vaccinations for any pupils who have not received two doses recommended on the childhood immunisation Programme.

 

Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent are currently piloting the annual influenza vaccination with years 7 and 8.

 

Referrals

Referrals to the school nurse can be made directly via the school reception, or by telephoning the number below. We try our best to see any pupil referred within two weeks, but will prioritise for more urgent cases.

 

Smallthorne Health Centre Drop In.

There is a drop in clinic run every week at Smallthorne Health Centre run by the School Nursing team between 3pm and 5pm. This clinic is available for both pupils and parents to attend with any health related issues or concerns. Appointments are available but not always needed.
